Due to the COVID-19 crisis, all Enfants du Monde teams are mobilised to adapt our programmes, in collaboration with our partners on the spot and the Ministries of Health, in order to protect our beneficiaries and our staff, support health systems and redirect our activities as the situation develops in the countries where we work.
What is the impact on the countries where we work?
Health services in the countries where Enfants du Monde is active (such as Bangladesh, Burkina Faso, Niger, El Salvador…) are fragile, poorly funded, poorly organised and are unprepared to provide specialised care for adequate management of severe COVID-19 cases. Health centres and hospitals will be quickly overwhelmed, especially since intensive care services are few in number and under-equipped.
This is why Enfants du Monde, through its local partners, is currently focussing its efforts on implementing infection prevention and control measures in health facilities; developing effective communication at community level; and reinforcing coordination for preparedness and response to an epidemic of COVID-19.
How do we adapt our programmes?
Health programmes
In order to provide the necessary support to the Ministries of Health in the face of the current health crisis, Enfants du Monde, in collaboration with its local partners, has adapted its health programmes to meet urgent needs.
El Salvador: Apprising pregnant women
Enfants du Monde has designed leaflets that provide information on COVID-19 and the health of pregnant women, young mothers and newborns to support the Salvadoran Ministry of Health.
El Salvador: Arrival of protective equipment
Enfants du Monde is supporting the Salvadorian Ministry of Health in its fight against the spread of COVID-19.
Videos for healthcare professionals
Discover our latest videos made for health workers, women and communities to support the countries of the Global South in their fight against COVID-19.
Bangladesh: Update on the local situation
The "Esprit Solidaire" show on Léman Bleu wanted to know about the COVID-19 situation in Asia, particularly in Bangladesh, one of the countries where we operate.
Haiti: Protecting health workers and pregnant women
We are currently seeking funds to further support our local partner in the distribution of COVID-19 protective equipment to caregivers.
Burkina Faso: Delivery of protective equipment
Two consignments of protective equipment (masks, hand-washing equipment, gloves, hand sanitizer…) for healthcare providers were delivered to Tenkodogo and Mangodara.
Burkina Faso: Maternal and newborn health
Many questions remain in the area of maternal and newborn health. Enfants du Monde is working with its local partners and the Ministry of Health to protect pregnant women and their babies.
Burkina Faso: Prevention rather than cure
In Burkina Faso, the first steps have been taken by the government to stop the spread of COVID-19. Enfants du Monde is supporting the Ministry of Health in preventive action and response to the epidemic.
Bangladesh: Informing and protecting people
In Bangladesh, the first signs of the epidemic are beginning to arrive, with more than 50 confirmed cases at the end of March. Through its local partner, Building Resources Across Communities (BRAC), Enfants du Monde has joined the race against the clock to stop the spread of coronavirus.
Education Programmes
In Guatemala, Burkina Faso, Niger, Chad, Benin, the schools we support are closed and teacher training is suspended. We are now thinking of alternative solutions – such as educational radio broadcasts for example – so that children can continue to follow lessons or distance learning (virtual) for teachers. In addition, our teams anticipate catch-up sessions as soon as schools are re-opened.
Guatemala: Distance learning for teachers
We support the Ministry of Education in the implementation of online training for teachers in order to improve the quality of bilingual and intercultural education.
Guatemala: Delivery of radio equipment
We provide support to the Ministry of Education in the development of educational radio programs for students in Guatemala.
Burkina Faso & Niger: Schools reopen
Enfants du Monde provides support so that children in Burkina Faso and Niger can return to school in complete safety.
Chad: Distance training for our partners
Our Health team has provided distance training for partners working on the project “Promoting Quality Basic Education in Chad”.
Chad: Setting up distance training
Enfants du Monde is adapting its activities within the framework of the “Programme for the Promotion of Quality of Basic Education” on behalf of the Swiss Development and Cooperation Department by offering distance training for future teachers.
Awareness Programmes
In Switzerland, all our activities in schools to raise awareness of children’s rights are suspended and postponed until the start of the 2020-21 school year. The Enfants du Monde team is currently working on educational materials and developing virtual media support.
Support our actions
In countries where very large numbers of people quite simply do not have access to water and soap, and live in very precarious conditions, the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic could be catastrophic.
More than ever, we need your support to help us carry out our mission. Donate now to support our activities!
