Donate now5 months after storms Eta and Iota passed through Guatemala, the population of Alta Verapaz is still struggling to recover. Torrential rains flooded and destroyed not only key infrastructure such as bridges, access points, residences and schools, but also fields and crops.
The populations of 7 rural municipalities have lost everything: their source of income and the ability to support themselves. 400 families including 1200 children have been affected. In this difficult to access mountainous region, the presence of human aid organisations is very rare and the local governments are unable to respond to this emergency situation.

Provide emergency aid
Enfants du Monde has led an education program since 2017 in this region and so has decided to act to help the population. Our local partner has evaluated the needs and each month will provide families with a package allowing them to survive and protect themselves from COVID-19: 15kg of food* as well as soap and a seed kit** to enable the transition.
To help the children overcome the trauma from this catastrophe, they will receive psychological support and benefit from recreational activities. Furthermore, the children of Alta Verapaz, already coming from disadvantaged families, no longer have educational materials, as they were destroyed in the flooding.
“We are in the sixth year of primary school and we are trying to continue our schooling but we have no more materials and we can’t go to school” explained two little girls from the La Isla community, in Santa Cruz Verapaz.
