Access to public schools has made rapid progress in recent years in Burkina Faso. Perhaps too fast, because the improvement in quality could not follow this development. Today, about 50% of adults who have completed primary school cannot read or write.
Enfants du Monde has been active for many years in Burkina Faso by supporting non-state schools. The year 2017 marks the beginning of a new collaboration with the State that appealed to our association to find a solution to improve the quality of bilingual education in public schools as well.
With the technical and financial support of Enfants du Monde, the Ministry of Education has developed a program for the training of teacher educators and primary school teachers. On September 19, a total of 30 teachers and 30 heads of bilingual state schools took a training program lasting one month, to improve the quality of their teaching.
