01.03.2013 - Aboubacar, a farmer's son, is 18 years old and lives with his parents and his six brothers in Sabon Gari, a little village near Tahoua. In this arid region of Sahel, the harvests are often bad and the incomes poor. Aboubacar and his brothers must work in order to meet the needs of the family. This situation unfortunately prevents the possibility of many children as Aboubacar to go to school.
When he was 11, Aboubacar had the opportunity to go to school for the first time thanks to a programme supported by Enfants du Monde. During his elementary education of four years, he was given a goat and he learnt the farming basics: “Today, I know how to recognize a good breed or how to keep the cattle and how to feed it. I know the illnesses too, as well as how to treat them.”
Today, Aboubacar possesses various goats and takes a further vocational training to broaden his knowledge of farming. Thanks to his job, he earns enough money to help his family and start his own one. “I want to stay in my village and contribute to its development.”
With 2.50 francs a day, you enable a child like Aboubacar to go to school for one year.
