Le mari d'Alima l'aide dans les travaux pénibles09.24.2012 - Alima Sana, an expectant mother, lives in a small village in Burkina Faso. Here as throughout the country, mothers-to-be cannot be sure they will be able to hold their new baby in their arms: Every year, over 4,000 women die during pregnancy or in childbirth.

Often the woman does not recognise the early warning signs of complications or she is afraid to stop working when she feels pain. “If I didn’t fetch water from the well or work in the fields, my husband would say I was lazy.” Thanks to the training provided by Enfants du Monde for women and their families, these attitudes are changing.

Issaka Sana, Alima’s husband, said: “I didn’t realise that continuing to work so hard could be dangerous for my wife and the baby. Now, I help her to carry heavy weights such as the water containers and wood for cooking.”

By making a donation or becoming a sponsor you are helping to save two lives: the mother and her baby.
