Haiti: our kindergarten is not ruined

Elifaite Saint-Pierre, coordinateur du projet d'Enfants du Monde à Haïti08.29.2012 - Saturday, August 25, the tropical storm Isaac hit Haiti. For 16 years, Enfants du Monde has supported a kindergarten and a community house in Port-au-Prince.

According the SAJ Veye Yo Association, Enfant du Monde’s local partner, the buildings as well as the operation of the kindergarten and the community house were not affected. “We have no human or material loss to lament. On a community level, particularly because of the precarious state of the housing in the neighborhood, several roofs of houses were blown away by the wind”, says Elifaite Saint-Pierre, coordinator of SAJ Veye Yo.

“There is a lot of anxiety in the population: people are in fear of a repeat of 2008, when three hurricanes hit Haiti in one month. They also fear a price increase in food products seeing as the agricultural sector was gravely affected”.
