08.17.2011 - Anibal lives in Peña Blanca, a mountainy village in the North of Guatemala. The little house he shares with his father, step mother, and 7 sibblings, has no electricty nor running water, but is full of love and warmth.
Here, the villagers live to the rythm of customs and Mayan traditions. Thanks to Enfants du Monde, the schools of the area take into account this cultural heritage.
Anibal learns for instance Spanish but also Q'echi, a Mayan language: « I am happy to be learning Spanish, the official language of Guatemala, as well as my mother tongue which is Q'echi. One day, when I'm older, I will not only be able to communicate with my community but also with other people who do not live here. »
« I am proud to be going to school – it is something a lot of people of our village were not able to do in their past. »
