01.10.2011 - On January 12th 2010, a terrible earthquake shook Haïti, bringing chaos and desolation. A year has passed, but the effects of this earthquake are still felt and not all daily activities have resumed.

Fritz Evens Moïse, an animator in a nursery school and in an animation center for youths from one of the poorer neighbourhoods of Port-au-Prince, that Enfants du Monde has been supporting since 1996, explains: «After the earthquake, we sheltered about 300 victims in our yard and insured psychological support. Then, regular activities started again.»  Since the month of May, 65 children have been coming back to the nursery school and youths from the neighbourhood have the possibility to participate in artistic workshops such as theatre and painting, as well as conferences on human rights.

Nevertheless, the animation center can not offer certain activities, for example: «the library and cybercafé are not usable, they were destroyed by the earthquake», explains Fritz Evens Moïse. But the goal of the activities of the center stays the same: «to give an alternative to youths who are often in despair because of their lifes' situations».
