04.06.2010 - In the north of Bangladesh, many children do not attend school because their parents, often poor farmers, cannot pay the fees. For several months now, Enfants du Monde has been funding three schools in this region thereby enabling approximately 450 children and young people, 8 to 18 years old to attend school. At the same time, Enfants du Monde is training teachers in those schools so that teaching can be of a high quality and adapted to the children’s needs.
After attending these schools, the students will have the know-how needed to continue their education in public school or set up their own business. Because unlike in public schools, the curriculum of these schools provide not only reading and writing classes, but also introduces the children to carpentry, pottery, sewing, picking mushrooms and using computers.
“We send our son to school because he not only learns to read and write but he is also trained to do practical work. In addition, we like that the school is free”, says the parents of Mamun, an 11-year old student.
