06.07.2009 - Slawomir Plata from Vevey in the Vaud Swiss Canton has volunteered to take pictures of education and health projects lead by Enfants du Monde in Bangladesh. The photographer had previously spent some time in Afghanistan for the Red Cross International Comity.
Slawomir Plata, why have you decided to visit and photograph Enfants du Monde projects in Bangladesh?
I have chosen Bangladesh because this country is often referred to in the media when natural disasters occur. I wanted to take pictures of locals who receive humanitarian support. I have contacted the Enfants du Monde organization because it leads interesting projects in different countries. This has also allowed me to establish on-site contacts in the country.
Which was the most intense experience you had during this trip?
Everyone wanted to have their picture taken, especially children! I have been impressed by the kindness of everyone I have been in contact with, even though communication was difficult as only very few could speak English.
Enfants du Monde also financially assists Mohammadpur school in Dhaka. What was your impression on the school?
Children were very studious and teaching classes is well organized. However, there are not enough computers and technology material for the school.
What will be next project you will be working on?
Bangladesh has been the first country I visited but I will soon travel to other countries where Enfants du Monde contributes to showing the reality of disadvantaged populations through my pictures.
